3 Creative Walkshops – Capturing Your Place

Join artist Ellie Barrett for a series of three creative walkshops exploring the Barrow-in-Furness coast.

Each walk offers an opportunity to creatively engage with the landscape, reflect on your sense of place, and connect with others.

Participants can sign up for one, two, or all three walkshops and are invited to a final group session at Art Gene to share ideas and experiences.

Limited places available – to apply, please email rachael.barker@art-gene.co.uk by Friday 29th August 2025, with a few sentences (no more than 50 words) explaining why you’re interested in taking part and how you think you’d benefit from joining one or more of the walkshops.

Walkshop dates

Tuesday 2 September – Walney Channel, low tide, 13.50

Sunday 7 September – Earnse Bay, Walney Island

Tuesday 9 September – Cavendish Dock, Barrow-in-Furness

Gallery meet up:

Monday 15 September – Final sharing session

All sessions run 1-3pm. Free with refreshments.

Perceptions of Place is a research project and a partnership between Art Gene, Lancaster University and Morecambe Bay Partnership. The project expires how interdisciplinary methods of artist-led walks and design-led inquiry can be used to engage with our sense of place.
