Are you good with plants and people? Would you like the challenge of managing an organic community allotment to produce food and protect nature?

Art Gene is seeking a Community Gardener on a fixed-term contract until 2028. We can consider a 3, 4 or 5 day-a-week contract for the right candidate, to suit their needs.

The objectives of the role are to:

• Work with the allotment volunteers, Art Gene staff and the wider community to support organic food production, sustainable growing practices and planting for biodiversity.
• Undertake seasonal garden maintenance work, including sowing, weeding, planting, pruning, watering, cropping, and raised bed and path repair.
• Develop and deliver focused community engagement sessions on Allotment Soup with community groups and schools; offer a warm welcome to visitors at all times.
• Work with the Projects and Volunteer Manager, the Art Gene Workshop and Facilities Manager, our wider team and the Artist-Director, as required, to help facilitate volunteer work parties and creative events on site.
• Support any Allotment Soup extension projects, such as tree planting

Timings can be negotiated, although the ability to work Friday afternoons and the occasional weekend day is essential.  We are happy to have a discussion about working patterns at interview for selected candidates.
