Real Barrow Artist in Residence – 2025

Faye is a British-born Iraqi artist and chef based in London. In 2023, she graduated from Central Saint Martins with a degree in Sculpture.

Following her studies, her artistic practice gradually transitioned toward the medium of food. As her work moved beyond the confines of the studio and onto the plate, she began to define this evolving body of work as Edible Mediums.

Edible Mediums encompassed a diverse range of formats, including workshops, community engagement projects, supper clubs, and written work. As a second-generation Iraqi, Faye uses food to engage with different communities, learn from them, and conduct research on the preservation of migrant identity – emphasising the importance of creating accessible language for first and second generation immigrants like herself in a creative context.

In March 2025, Faye joined us as Artist in Residence for two weeks, marking the start of her project, Sufra Dayma or its English interpretation, Bless The Meal.

Bless the Meal involved a series of creative workshops with Barrow’s refugee community to explore themes of food, culture, and heritage.

Faye invited participants to share and celebrate memories of their homeland, exploring both local and international food cultures and traditions. Together, they created memory palates and learned to cook dishes such as falafel, baklava, and fuul.

The outcomes – including recipes, collages and drawings – will form a part of a creative cookbook designed by Faye. These will be on display in our Remember Nature exhibition, opening in November 2025.

Faye has also been selected as a contributing artist for this exhibition and will participate in the nationwide day of artist-led action to stand up for nature on November 4, 2025.
